On Saturday, June, 22, our company supported a good cause that hits very close to home. An island in the middle of the ocean, we all love our home for different reasons— but one thing that almost everyone can agree on is the unique beauty of the nature found on the Hawaiian Islands, especially its renowned coastlines. However, in order to preserve the incredible nature in Hawaii, we must care for our earth, beaches, and oceans. “Caring” for our environment not only means cleaning up the environment by picking up trash, plastic, and other non-biodegradable materials, but by reducing the amount of trash and waste we create in the first place.

List Sotheby’s International Realty Hawaii’s agents and staff came together to support this cause by volunteering for Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii. Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii is a grassroots, local nonprofit organization run by a small team of dedicated staff and supported by passionate volunteers. They make their impact on the world by inspiring local communities to care for their coastlines through fun hands-on beach cleanups, coordinated educational programs, team building corporate cleanups, waste diversion services, and public awareness campaigns. They taught us that cleanups can only do so much, so they now utilize their cleanups to inspire better consumer behavior and continued coastal stewardship through cleanups, education, social media, and more.

We hope that this inspires you to put a little effort into reducing your trash and waste, and being conscious of picking up litter when you see it. We all love our home, and it’s time to give a little love back. Together, let’s care for our land. E Malama Ka ‘Aina.

We’re pleased to share the Oahu real estate update for May 2019.

For the month of May, single-family homes decreased modestly by 1.0% to $770,000, while the median price for condos dipped by 2.9% percent to $417,500.  New listings increased from the same time period last year for both single-family homes and condominiums by 5.2% and 7.1%, respectively. The median days on the market for single-family homes was 21 and 27 for condominiums.

The Oahu housing market is experiencing activity similar to that being seen nationally, especially in major metropolitan areas, with moderate shifts in both median prices and sales, along with increases in available inventory.

As for interest rates, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate recently fell below 4% for the first time since January 2018.  It’s a great time for buyers to take advantage of the low rates.
